I am excited to announce that I will be running the first ever virtual Run for Women in support of women's mental health programs at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. I am hoping that you would consider supporting this cause by sponsoring my run. Funds raised will help ensure that St. Joe's is there during all life's stages when women need access to mental health programs. Specific programs include the Seniors Mental Health Program, Womenkind Addictions Service, Youth Wellness Centre and Women's Health Concerns Clinic.
As someone who has experienced anxiety and depression, I started to run five years ago as a way to cope. I was never gifted athletically and often felt anxious about letting others down when I participated in team sports growing up. Running has proven to be something that is entirely my own and I am only in competition with myself, striving to run longer and faster intervals over the years. I now run a five-kilometer route every other night as a form of mental health care.
The COVID-19 pandemic has added another layer of impact on our mental health. I am personally thankful for the five-kilometers of trails and sidewalks that are located in my neighbourhood. Having access to this form of self-care continues to help me through this time of uncertainty and isolation.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support,
