Hello friends - It is almost May and I am looking forward to the annual Run for Women June 9th. I am walking 5K for women's mental health and Women's College Hospital. The generous support I have received on my previous walks has been amazing - I am so grateful for the generosity of all my supporters. On a personal note I am making the run for my mother who has always been my support and inspiration. My Mom has had a tough couple of months as a result of some bad falls. She is recovering and now we wait for a bed in long term care. I have been navigating our system of caring for the aged and there are many good people trying to do their best but not enough resources to support her in her home or in a place where she can be safe and continue to recover. We are so lucky that we can afford to supplement her care with private PSWs. There has to be a better way.
My experience caring for my mother is just one of the reasons I am so passionate about Women's College Hospital. WCH is home to the Women's Age Lab and it is unique in its focus. "the Women's Age Lab will be a space for exploration and collaboration on science-driven system and social change that will improve the lives of older women". Once again WCH is innovating in an area of women's health where leadership is long overdue. I continue to be inspired by WCH, all the people who work there and I am proud to be part of the WCH community. If you can support my walk in any way you know your donation will be going to a great cause and will be very much appreciated.
