As you know, the Run for Women supports women's mental health locally. It has raised OVER $1 million dollars to support the Women's Mental Health Clinic at the Foothills Medical Centre. This money helped the families and mothers with mental health problems in pregnancy and postpartum. This is important as maternal mental health impacts long term outcomes for kids, is a leading cause of death of mothers and mental health is a leading cause of disability.
Did you know that our knowledge of women's medical health is VERY limited compared with men? The book Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men outlines this, as well as many ways that our world doesn't account for the experience women. Our longer term goal is to have a Women's Mental Health Strategy in the Calgary Zone.
