Mental illness is still such a taboo thing for many families, where it is unfortunately stigmatized. It is especially overlooked for women even in this day and age..:
Women have different hormones than men.
Women go through different physically stages throughout their lifetime than men - menstruation, pregnancy, menopause.
Women have different circadian rhythm than men.
With all our differences, women are still not researched enough for treatments… It has been a man’s world in the medical field and we need to even the playing field.
I am doing Shoppers Run for Women a 2nd time because I am running for better care for women and our community. It is not only about raising funds, but spreading knowledge as I too come from a family where mental illness is stigmatized/unknown. Unfortunately, my dad’s youngest sister and my cousin took their own lives because they did not have the resources or support they needed. So, I am also running for them.
Thank to those who have graciously donated as it is truly means a lot!
